The Best Usual Jammer !
The Jam Sessions are really
a hit. We've got a regular turn out of musicians
who come with their instruments on Sunday nights
- the music is great, and gets better and better
as the night wears on. The musicians also tell
their friends, and this results in a great mix
of clients and a more participatory ambience.
There's a great appreciation of jazz in Casablanca,
and the Jam Sessions at Rick's do their part in
providing a showcase for great music and some
superb talent. Because the jammers come and play
for the sheer enjoyment, we've come up with a
"Best Usual Jammer" award to acknowledge musicians
that have been the most loyal. The first award
went to Karim
Benkirane, electric guitar, who has played
at almost every one of the sessions since we started
them in late May. In addition Karim has a wide
network of friends who he has introduced to Rick's
and most importantly was the person who first
put me in contact with Issam when I was searching
for Rick's "Sam." Gerard LeCouvreur plays heavenly
saxophone and can be counted on to come most every
week.

Taking a trip to Tunisia, he was really apologetic
that he was going to miss the Jam Session and
let us know in advance. While every night seems
like a party at Rick's, Sundays have become special,
and it feels more like having friends over for
an informal evening. Karim and Gerard have made
this especially so. ! |
