Syriana premiere
Syriana, the latest feature film from George Clooney, is topical to say the least - a weathered CIA agent is caught up in a tense drama involving the politics and corruption of oil interests in the Persian Gulf and Washington. The story reveals the lonely isolation that is the life of an intelligence agent, the greed and ruthlessness of global business operatives and the social conditions which render innocents prey to islamic fundamentalism. Writer/Director Stephen Gaghan was inspired by the 2002 autobiography of former CIA operative Robert Baer, See No Evil, in fashioning this fictional screenplay. Syriana , along with Clooney's Good Night, And Good Luck , couldn't come at a better time. Just as Casablanca was able to take a larger message and wrap it in a story that theater audiences could grasp, these two films will hopefully bring their viewers to reflect on the current state of corruption, politics and propeganda in Washington and Iraq and the global ramifications. Part of Syriana was filmed in Casablanca during September and October 2004, and Rick's Café hosted the production launch party. What a night that was - and the largely English, American and Australian crew took beer consumption to new heights! Here are some of the pictures from the party.sad to say the only Clooney in the room was the voice of Rosemary, but nevertheless it was a fun evening and we enjoyed the company of many crew members during their two-week stay. Syriana has a benefit premiere in New York November 20 and a general release December 9.
